ABOUT DR. MAY


Dr. May is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has been practicing in Hanover County since 1992. She provides assessment and counseling services for individuals, couples, adolescents, and children. Her counseling style is interpersonal and interactive. Her work tends to be direct, short-term, and focused on setting and meeting goals, which may include relief from depression or stress, improving relationships, or making important decisions. She works with many local psychiatrists and family doctors if medication is indicated as a part of treatment.

Dr. May recieved her Ph.D. from the University of Florida. She was on the senior staff at VCU Counseling Services and had adjunct appointments in the Depatments of Psychology and Psychiatry. She was the Director of Training at VCU Counseling Services for six years, where she did therapy, publishing, teaching, and supervision. She has special interests in relationship issues and working with clergy and health professionals. She has been a consultant for the Department of Rehabilitative Services and the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. Dr. May has taught psychology at the local community college.

She was awarded the 2017 Top Doctor Award in Clinical Psychology.
